A founding trustee, Doug has been president of Anacortes Parks Foundation since 2001. A retired bank vice president, he has over 35 years experience in various areas of finance. Having an interest in recreation facilities and programs, Doug has served as project manager on several of our completed projects. He has been a City of Anacortes Park Board commissioner since 1990 as well. Married to Kathy, he has 4 kids, and 4 grandchildren.

Retired from Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corp in 1988, having held positions of Director, Corporate Transportation; Managing Director, Kaiser Aluminium, Hong Kong; and Business Manager, Kaiser Chemicals, Cleveland. Jim owned a logistics services business in California, and retired to Anacortes in 1991. He was principal to foundation of APF, in 1994 and is a loyal (and patient) Cougar!

Eric Johnson, Colonel, USAF (ret) After having served for 30 years in the United States Air Force Eric and his wife, Lynette, retired in Anacortes in 2002. In 2003, he began the effort that has resulted in the Anacortes Family Center, a shelter for single women, single moms and families with children (www.AnacortesFamily.org). He also started Fidalgo Island Share-a-Home (www.FidalgoFISH.org), a means of bringing together those who want to share their homes with those looking for an affordable place to live. He is the facilitator for the Anacortes Human Services Coalition, a group to better coordinate the activities of churches, social service providers, Island Hospital, the Red Cross and other outreach agencies in Anacortes. He's also is a member of the Anacortes Community Health Council and has served on the board of the Friendship House homeless shelters in Mount Vernon and the Anacortes Affordable Housing Citizen Advisory Committee. He was the president of the Anacortes Noon Kiwanis Club in 2008-09 and the Senior Warden of Christ Episcopal Church in 2007-08.

Since moving to Anacortes in 1992 with her husband and four children, Michele has been an active community volunteer. She was founding president of both Mt. Erie Elementary and the Anacortes Middle School PTA’s. Involved in OARS since 1998 she has served as secretary and president. She was the assistant coach for the Venture Troop 4081 high school rowing team for 9 years helping them procure a 26’ longboat. Recently Michele led a successful fundraising effort for the Tommy Thompson Trestle repair. Currently she is active in the Anacortes Small Boat Center effort.

Frank McCoy has been an Anacortes resident since 2002. He retired in 1995 as the City of Spokane’s Director of Parks, Recreation, Golf and Human Services. Previously, he was Parks and Recreation Director in both Franklin Park, Illinois and Newberg, Oregon. He has a BA from Texas A&M University and a Masters Degree in Parks and Recreation Management from the University of Oregon. He and his wife, Betty Anne, have two married daughters and four grandchildren. He is an active boater and Past Commodore of the Flounder Bay Yacht Club at Skyline. He is a volunteer on the maintenance committee at the Gentry House Skagit Adult Day Care facility, and at the Red Door Thrift Shop. He is also a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Besides boating, he enjoys walking through the Anacortes Parks, Forest Lands and trails.

Tursi, John

Honorary Trustee

An Anacortes icon who has distinguished himself in so many ways, John is published and the recognized historian on construction of the Deception Pass bridge and park. He has worked with the County and City Museums, the Shelter project, and repair of the Tommy Thompson trestle. With the City John personally ensured protection of 400 acres of forest land, was recently honored when the City named the John and Doris Tursi Park and Playground for his many contributions to parks and other community programs. He has been an active volunteer in the Soroptimist Thriftshop since it started, and considers this effort just another way to help members of the community.

Our Mission
To encourage private or public donations of land or money for the acquisition, development, and enhancement of park and recreation facilities in and around Anacortes. We also manage park-related projects and administer charitable contributions for local programs.
